Progress with our current strategy since 2007

Terrence Higgins Trust is at the forefront of the fight against HIV, and improving the nation's sexual health.

In 2007 we established the following strategy for our work:

  • To maximise sexual health in the UK, and minimise the spread of HIV and STIs, by encouraging people to value their sexual health and by leading innovation to increase access to local sexual health services;
  • To empower everyone living with HIV to maximise their health and wellbeing by working to ensure the best possible HIV treatment and support services;
  • To lead public and political support for HIV and sexual health issues, and campaign to eradicate stigma and discrimination.

We have made a lot of progress in implementing the strategy.  In response to what our beneficiaries and supporters told us they wanted when we asked them four years ago we have:

  • Established a nationally accessible long term condition management service for people with HIV;
  • Extended the range of services provided for people with HIV in poverty;
  • Increased the number of people being supported by our local HIV support services;
  • Developed our local and national services to help minimise the spread of HIV;
  • Established a network of local sexual health clinical services;
  • Increased the number of members from 1000 to nearly 9000 people;
  • Exerted demonstrable influence on government policies;
  • Increased by nearly a third the amount of charitable money raised for HIV and sexual health.
