Thank you to our fundraiser of the month, Tom Clements, who completed the London Marathon for us in April!
Congratulations to Tom who raised a truly spectacular £5,262.00 from completing the London Marathon 2017. From everyone at Terrence Higgins Trust, we’d like to say thank you for taking on this incredible challenge for us and for being such a fantastic supporter of our work!
Tom told us why he put on his running shoes for Terrence Higgins Trust…
'A friend introduced me to Terrence Higgins Trust about ten years ago when she asked me to keep her company on a 10km 'Walk for Life', an event raising money for people living with HIV. Shockingly I didn't know anything about HIV, having learnt nothing about it at school and so I decided that I wanted to help.
'An avid reader, I read more about HIV including the work Princess Diana had done along with stories like 'Holding the Man' and 'Philomena'. These films were so poignant and heart breaking, proving that HIV can truly affect anyone. Since then, I have ran two half marathons for Terrence Higgins Trust, before taking on my biggest challenge - the London Marathon!
'On a personal note, I wanted to prove to myself and to any doubters that I can really do anything. It was the big ‘turning 30’ challenge I needed. In the last few miles of pain I thought of all the people who weren't lucky enough to have the vital support and help that Terrence Higgins Trust provides. It was an honour to help.'
