Paul Robinson

Williams-Bear-G (Print Edition), 2016

Paul Robinson

Grimsby-born fine artist Paul Robinson has diversified to produce an eclectic portfolio of digital, graphic and photographic work. He effortlessly combines disjointed and seemingly disconnected elements.

The ‘Pink Bear’ is Robinson’s most iconic work and his enduring motif. It is no longer a mascot but has become a mystical figure of a fantasy world - it is not a man in a costume, it is an alter ego. The costume-dressed figure exists between reality and make believe, innocence and corruption.

Robinson’s Pink Bear has a whimsical sense of playfulness through its association with childhood memories, yet remains firmly attached to adulthood through the tainted surfaces that surround the character in the abstract spaces of the artwork.
