Richard Whadcock: Morning's First Light

Morning's First Light, 2016

Richard Whadock

Richard Whadcock is one of the UK's leading contemporary artists, specialising in atmospheric landscape paintings. His work explores the South Downs and East Sussex coast. The geographical locations serve as an inspirational starting point for Richard, for whom the process of painterly exploration allows the paintings to take over and follow their own path, each creating their unique surface landscape.

Most of Whadcock's paintings centre around the South Downs in East and West Sussex. This particular painting is from an early morning walk along a stretch from Clayton which eventually leads you up to Devil's Dyke. The subtle light of dawn transforms shapes and colour within the landscape.

The Hove-based artist’s paintings are featured in private and corporate collections worldwide. Richard is represented by the Northcote Gallery, London.
