Coffee and cake with the artist followed by a visit to his workspace
Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller has been described as the ‘pied piper of popular culture’. He is best known for his conceptual and video works such as The Battle of Orgreave - a reconstruction of striking miners being chased through a Yorkshire village - and the moving Battle of the Somme centenary tribute We’re Here Because We’re Here. This involved 1,400 volunteers dressed as individual soldiers who died in the Somme. They congregated at public spaces, including railway stations, across the country.
When members of the public approached or spoke to them they silently handed out cards with the name and details of the soldier they represented.
Following his hugely popular Joy in People retrospective at The Hayward Gallery, Deller was selected to create the British Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale.
Deller will talk to the lot winner about his work and inspiration over coffee and cake, and then offer a visit to his workspace at home.
