On 2 February, Greg and Marie Marchand launched Frenchie Covent Garden on Henrietta Street, their first site outside of Paris.
Frenchie Covent Garden by Gregory Marchand is the newest outpost of the hugely popular Frenchie, Frenchie Wine Bar, Frenchie To Go and Frenchie Wine Shop hailing from the Rue du Nil in Paris’ 2nd arrondissement.
Greg, who considers London as his second home, spent several long periods in the capital cooking at the Mandarin Oriental, the Savoy Grill and the Electric House before joining Fifteen, where the kitchen nickname ‘Frenchie’ stuck.
The menu at Frenchie Covent Garden echoes its Parisian counterpart, referencing Greg’s experiences in kitchens across the world from Gramercy Tavern in New York to beach bars in Spain, through to Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen in London, underpinned by his classical French training growing up in Nantes, north west France. Using, for the most part, British-sourced ingredients, Greg’s dishes have evolved across the Channel. His simple yet inspired cuisine includes trademark techniques such as house-smoked meat and fish, vibrant seasoning and fresh flavours, which all shine through.
These techniques are showcased immediately with ‘bites’ of Bacon scones with Cornish clotted cream and Clarence Court egg mimosa with black truffle. Braised pig head with Bramley apple, sweet onions and buckwheat and Roasted carrots with Vadouvan oil, Medjool dates and barley have proved immediately popular in the ever-changing ‘savoury’ section, whilst Cheeses & Desserts conclude with Bitter sweet chocolate tart with Maldon sea salt and bacon ice cream.
The menu is complemented by an ever-changing, carefully selected wine list with a focus on artisanal Old World wines, craft beers and seasonal cocktail menu where ‘Apple is the New Orange’ blends Mitcher’s Rye, distilled apple and rhubarb, ‘Greg’s Negroni’ puts a twist on the classic with Beefeater 24, Campari and Cinzano and ‘Brookling’ mixes Bulleit Rye, Noilly Prat, Picon and Maraschino.
