I volunteer as an administrative assistant for the Counselling team in the Gray’s Inn Road office.
I initially started in the role as part of the Work Positive scheme, which is a six month work placement scheme that Terrence Higgins Trust runs to help people build skills and gain confidence and experience in order to get back into the workplace. When my placement finished I realised that I was still finding it a challenge getting used to working life and didn’t yet feel ready for a full-time position so I decided to stay on as a volunteer.
I also recently volunteered to compile a list of healthy socialising alternatives to the bar/club/chems/sex scene for the website. While I was listening to some conversations I saw a need and thought I could fill that need.
The best thing about working at Terrence Higgins Trust is the wonderful people that I work with and to be active and contributing to a larger goal. It’s a real antidote to spending time alone and overthinking things all day. I find it’s very helpful for my mental health.
