Ngozika Jane Hemuka
I volunteer for the Terrence Higgins Trust in Shrewsbury and Telford, providing support to the Champions of Change project.
The aim of the Champions of Change project is to provide HIV and sexual health training to BME communities across the Midlands, in an attempt to challenge HIV-related stigma and discrimination. I have been volunteering for just over a year now.
I volunteer with Terrence Higgins Trust because I am passionate about impacting positively in people’s life. Being able to say I have changed or made a positive impact in the world, in my community, in the lives of others gives me the purpose of living rather than just caring for myself and family. Volunteering for Terrence Higgins Trust consistently reminds me that we are all in this fight against HIV together and we need to remember to support each other through it all.
The best part of being a volunteer for Terrence Higgins Trust is that it gives me the opportunity to be devoted to a cause that I am passionate about as well as spreading the passion to others. Terrence Higgins Trust has changed my attitude and perceptions about HIV and has helped me discover hidden talents that have changed my views on my self confidence.
