Dr Thom postal testing
THT has teamed up with DrThom to offer a postal testing and treatment service for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, two of the most common STIs in the UK.
Chlamydia normally doesn’t show any symptoms so you might have it and not know. Both Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea can lead to long-term health problems - including infertility in both men and women and painful testicles in men - if left untreated. That’s why it’s important to get tested. Both STIs are normally straightforward to treat.
It’s not always easy to visit your local GUM clinic. Most clinics are open only during office hours, and some have long waiting times. We’re therefore offering this service to give you the option of looking after aspects of your sexual health without having to leave home.
The service isn’t free, but the price includes all postage, packaging and any treatment if you test positive. The doctors who oversee the service are all specialists in sexual health and the service has been formally assessed to meet the high standards required of private medical services.
It's all confidential and your results won’t be shared with your GP unless you want them to be.
Are the tests accurate?
The urine tests are accurate and are exactly the same as the urine tests that more and more GUM clinics use. The advantage of using urine tests as opposed to the traditional genital swabs is that genital swabs can be uncomfortable.
Is the treatment effective?
There is no known resistance to the antiobiotic treatments that are used to treat Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, so treatment is normally effective.
Indeed, treatment tends to be so effective that so long as you complete the full course of treatment, there’s no need to have a ‘test of cure’ to make sure that the infection has gone away.

How the service works
Using the service is easy, just click here to register on the DrThom website.
Using a debit or credit card you can purchase the service and we’ll then send you a discreet pack that contains a test sample collection pack. There’s nothing on the envelope to indicate what’s inside. If you place your order before 4:30pm Monday to Friday we’ll send you your pack in that day’s first class post.
By following the simple instructions, you’ll be able to collect a test sample and post it back to our laboratory in the special envelope provided.
The laboratory will process your test and we’ll then upload your result onto part of the DrThom website that only you can access. If you need treatment, we’ll explain what you have to do when we give you your results.
The whole process is confidential, so you don’t need to worry about other people finding out about your result.
