Fastest the movie

so what happens at a Fastest clinic?

We've produced this filmstrip to show you exactly how using one of our Fastest clinics is convenient, safe, quick and easy.

Taking care of your sexual health is just as easy as looking after other parts of your life..so what's stopping you?

1. fastest and you

Fastest is our sexual health clinic service. We’re bringing testing and other services out from hospital and into the community so that they can fit more easily into your busy lifestyle.

2. on your highstreet

You can turn up at one of our Fastest clinics whenever it’s open – you don’t need to make an appointment. Your clinic will usually be in the highstreet so that it’s convenient.

3. about you

When you arrive the receptionist will give you some paperwork to fill in.

4. confidential

All the information you give us is treated with the strictest confidence – we won’t tell anyone else that you’ve been here or the results of your test.

5. a short wait

You’ll have to wait for you turn for a short time in a waiting room.

6. an informal chat

When you’re called into the clinic the nurse will have a talk with you first to tell you what’s going to happen and discuss what put you at risk, and ways to reduce that risk in the future.

7. one small prick

If you’re having an HIV test it will probably be a finger-prick test. A small pin pricks the end of one of your fingers and a sample of blood is taken.

8. results

This sample is put onto a special re-active paper that will show if you have HIV in about 15 minutes. If you do the nurse will talk to you about what to do next and who will be there to support you.

9. a wee sample

If you’re being tested for Chlamydia than you’ll be given a bottle to pee into. Your urine will be sent off to be tested for Chlamydia and you’ll get the result in about a week. If you’re being tested for other STIs they’ll take a blood sample which they’ll sent off to the laboratory for testing too.

10. the knowledge

The nurse can give you information and advice about your sexual health, STIs, pregnancy and safer sex.

11. contraception

You’ll be able to take free condoms away with you and some clinics can give you other forms of contraception too – like the morning after pill, the coil or the contraceptive injection.

12. texting you

Within a week of your test you’ll get your results by text or phone call, or you can come back in if you don’t have a phone or you’re worried about someone finding out.

13. coming back

If you do have an STI then you’ll need to come back to the Fastest clinic for treatment. Nearly all STIs can be cured altogether with a short course of anitbiotic pills.

14. take your medicine

The nurse will show you how to take the pills there and then.

15. moving on

Then you’re on your way – it’s that simple.
