We offer a range of services throughout England, Scotland and Wales – many of them tailored to suit the varied needs of our diverse communities.

Are you aged 16-25 and from an ethnic background?

Would you like to teach your friends about good sexual health practices through sport?

Play it Safe is looking for volunteers!

Terrence Higgins Trust will train and support you to plan sexual health workshops for your friends using the fun element of sport or any physical activity you want.

What is Play it Safe?

Play it Safe is an exciting & motivating project aimed at young people.

We are recruiting young people from ethnic backgrounds in two regions - London and Essex and Yorkshire and Humberside.

We'll train you in sexual health, safe sexual practises & relationships so that you can take your knowledge and share it with your friends during sports activities.

If you take part we'll train you to deliver sports events that have sexual health information built into them.

You don’t need to develop your own activity unless you feel you want to. The idea is that if you are part of a team you can do your weekly training session and then add the sex and relationships education part somewhere within it.

The project is flexible in order to fit in with you - not the other way round. Whether you're creating a brand new session or including Play it Safe into an existing event/group we will help and support you all the way.

What training will I get?

  • To be trained in sexual health/safeguarding
  • The opportunity to get an Open College Network accreditation
  • Support around delivery of sessions
  • Support in approaching sporting clubs/associations and other similar venues
  • Support in planning your final end of project event
  • Support with promotion and ways to reach other young people.

What would I need to do?

  • To have time to be trained - this takes 2 days
  • To deliver 14 hours of sessions to friends/team mates in a sports setting
  • To organise (with our help) sporting events to get people to come in and hear about sexual health
  • To help recruit other young people
