So what's been going on in the North West? Here's some of your projects:
Received a grant for magazine subscriptions, LGBT books (for young people to borrow), publicity leaflets, and a research trip to Manchester LGF.
Received a grant for an SRE notice board project. Nine young people researched local services and devised a photographic story board for their Youth Centre. The money bought a camera, art equipment and resources for a grand opening event. This will be kept updated by the young people who were granted the money.
A small group of LGBT young people developed a resource manual/training pack for professionals in Blackburn to use in schools and youth settings. This was due to the fact there is no LGBT youth provision in the area.
A peer education project developing a DVD highlighting some of the issues faced by young people living with or affected by HIV. The DVD was to be done in collaboration with Contact Theatre and a school for Deaf young people.
Were given a grant to design and produce an inclusive Young Women’s Sexual Health information pack which will be distributed through Youth Settings across the Borough.

‘International Day Against Homophobia’ (IDAHO) is to raise the awareness of homophobia and is celebrated by countries all over the world on May 17th. As National Board Member for the North West I helped out at the IDAHO day in the THT office in the Wirral. During this day I set up the room for people to look at the Young Leaders display. It was also my job to do an activity called ‘Hands up for Equality,’ this was where we had paper hands and people wrote comments or statements about homophobia on them. We had a few people who did this and the answers were good, here are a few examples of what people said:
“Homophobia is a No Go”
“Homophobia has no place among the human race”
“Never be afraid to challenge homophobia - be proud of who you are”
“Stand up and be counted; support zero tolerance, report all hate crime, and challenge homophobia”
This year Liverpool Town Hall and all the Police Stations around Merseyside had Rainbow Flags flying to mark this day (as well as Birkenhead which is by the THT office). This is the first time this has happened in Merseyside.
Some local MP’s came to the event and I also spoke to people about the Young Leaders Project and I got in a photo by the local newspaper. There were lots of people in and out during the event and we gave away a lot of information about Young Leaders by giving away free pens and leaflets!
