How do I know if my bits are normal looking?

 Are my bits normal looking?

Just like the shape of your nose, your bits can come in all sorts of shapes or sizes – there is no such thing as a normal shaped vagina or penis. What’s important is to get to know your own body so that you are aware of any changes.

If I just ignore a sexually transmitted infection will it disappear?

If I just Ignore a sexually transmitted infection will it disappear?

Sexually Transmitted Infections don’t just go away by themselves, the longer you leave them the more serious they’re likely to get.  You may not have any symptoms but if you suspect you have put yourself at risk of contracting an STI go and get it checked out.  Most infections are easily sorted as long as they are treated as soon as possible.

Can I catch HIV through kissing?

Can I catch HIV through Kissing?

No, absolutely not.  Saliva does not contain enough of the HIV virus to pass from one person to another. The most common ways that HIV is passed on is through unprotected sex; blood to blood – people sharing injecting equipment; and mother to baby – this can happen during pregnancy, birth or from breastfeeding.  Unprotected oral sex carries a smaller risk.   For more information call THT Direct on 0845 12 21 200

Can pregnancy happen the first time you have sex?

Can pregnancy happen the first time you have sex?
Yes, if you do not use contraception. Also it is worth remembering that no form of contraception is 100% effective.  To discuss this in more detail call THT Direct on 0845 12 21 200.

Can under 16’s get condoms?

 Can under 16's get condoms?
Yes, you can – even though the legal age you are allowed to have sex is 16, professionals working with young people are allowed to give out information and condoms if you need them.  You have the rignt to confidentiality so no one will know, unless you are at risk of harm or abuse – even then this should be discussed with you.

If I fancy my best mate – does that mean I am gay?

If I fancy my best mate - does that mean I am gay?
It is perfectly normal to be attracted to someone of the same sex and it doesn’t necessarily mean you are gay.  There are many organisations that can help you talk through your feelings.  Call THT Direct on 0845 12 21 200 to get the number of a support group.
