Here's some of your projects that have happened in the West Midlands so far:
Funding a 'needs assessment' via a mobile mypod across Staffordshire during summer holidays, to find out what young people understand, think feel around HIV (local, national & global level). Includes peer led awareness sessions (on sexual health choices & HIV) Leaflets and information. This information will then be used to support a collaborative project between Young People in Staffordshire and Ethiopia.
Series of workshops for parents and young people, culminating in a joint workshops for both participants. Use of drama facilitator to support both groups to explore issues surrounding difficulties and barriers young people and parents find in discussing issues around sex and relationships with each other. Developing key skills through a scrap-book activity to enable parents to communicate more openly, comfortably and confidently with their children.
Series of workshops using drama & dance to explore some of the Issues around Sex and Relationships that Young People face (in particular within marginalised groups such as African Caribbean communities). Final two part perfomance (a) drama piece to community members (b) workshop with community members to raise awareness and explore how as a community they can work together to address the issues raised in the performance.
Training day to enable young people with wide range of disabilities to explore their understanding of relationships. Includes project called New Possibilities who will document all that is discussed in creative format & scrapbooks to be used with parents and group for the future sessions.
Project applications to receive training sessions (on Sexual Health) over an 8 week period culminating in a drop in with advice from the trained Young people including information and leaflets, to Young Women at a community event ‘Honeyz on the wood’ in Solihull.
A group from inner city Brmingham took part in drama workshops resulting in final drama performance at a local community day event. The drama focused on a 15 year old girl who found out she was pregnant and explored discussions on termination, teen pregnancy, contraception and STI's. It looked at emotional aspects for the girl herself, her family and friends.
