More than 6,000 15-24 year olds worldwide become infected with HIV every day and it’s estimated that one in ten sexually active young women is infected with chlamydia, which, if left untreated, can lead to serious health problems and infertility. But with sexual ill health rife, a recent survey revealed that over a third of 16-24 year olds don’t always use a condom with a new sexual partner!

It’s clear that we need to get young people talking about sex and its consequences. Your mission, should you accept it, is to challenge the ignorance and shame that so often surround discussion of sex and sexually transmitted infections.

How you can get involved

There are many ways you can get people really thinking about their sexual health - while they’re having fun and raising vital funds, of course. Whether you’re a student union rep, a member of a RAG society or a student at college or university wanting to put your energy and initiative to good use, our Community Fundraising team will be on hand to help you get involved. Here are just three examples of things students have been up to recently:

• Jaws weren’t the only things that dropped when University of Derby Students' Union raised £1,834.83 for THT through sales of their naked calender.
• You name it, Warwick University RAG did it - hitches, sporting tournaments, pub quizzes, raids...and they raised a fantastic total of £1011.
• Queens University in Belfast braved arctic conditions to collect at Beverley Knights’ concert on World AIDS day and raised a fantastic £322.69.
