Every 77 minutes, somebody in the UK is diagnosed with HIV. Find out how you can help Terrence Higgins Trust to be there for them.

Raising money at your school

Holding a fundraising event at your school is an excellent way to support THT and get pupils and staff talking about HIV and AIDS.

Are your pupils getting their knickers in a twist about sex?

By the age of 16, around 50% of young people have already had sex. But when it comes to understanding the risks involved - to themselves and others - many teenagers are just fumbling in the dark. Which is exactly where sexual ill health thrives.

  • Last year, young people (16-24 years old) accounted for 65 per cent of all chlamydia, 55 per cent of genital warts and 52 per cent of gonorrhoea infections diagnosed in GUM clinics across the UK.*
  • Over a third of young people admit they don’t always bother to use a condom with a new sexual partner.**
  • In the UK alone, someone is newly diagnosed with HIV every 70 minutes. That’s nearly 8,000 people a year. And there’s no cure for HIV.

Have these scary facts got your knickers in a twist? You can do something about it!

World AIDS Day is a perfect day to get young people thinking about the serious side of sex. A day to think about the 33 million people around the world living and dying with HIV.  A day to recognise that, here in the UK, young people’s sexual health is reaching crisis-point.

We can help you get the whole school talking about HIV and sexual health while raising money for our vital services such as Sex Facts, Fastest and the THT Direct helpline.

We have lots of great fundraising ideas and can provide you with posters, red ribbons, collection tins and balloons.

You can sign up for an event and order your fundraising materials here. Or simply get in touch with me, Becky.

And why not check out our resources for teachers tackling issues such as relationships, sexuality, STIs and safer sex. All the things, in fact, that young people might get their knickers in a twist about.

Your chance to star in a THT Production

After the event don’t forget to send us your photos! We are always looking for photos and stories to include in our annual newsletter and on our website. So if you’ve done something worth shouting about make sure you send us all the details too.
