Employee fundraisingFundraising events at work are a great way of meeting new people, as well as raising money for THT. A Charity of the Year scheme can make fundraising even more successful. | ![]() |
If your company operates a Charity of the Year scheme, why not think about nominating THT this year? Our professional, dedicated corporate fundraising team will be happy to help you to have some real fun with your fundraising!
Terrence Higgins Trust was chosen for a 2007/08 Charity of the Year partnership by People Unlimited, a recruitment agency specialising in the charity and not-for-profit sectors. HIV and sexual health are traditionally not popular causes when organisations choose their ‘Charity of the Year’ and it’s the first partnership of this kind that THT has secured.
THT was chosen by People Unlimited staff over the 51 other charities who applied. People Unlimited raised just over £9,000 for THT through a variety of fundraising efforts. They held a comedy night at Jongleurs, raised sponsorship through running events, sold cakes in the office, held a Eurovision party and put collecting tins in their office.
The partnership also exchanged professional knowledge and expertise. In July last year two of People Unlimited’s consultants came in and held a CV surgery to help with career development for THT staff and volunteers. THT presented to People Unlimited’s HR manager contacts on the subject of workplace discrimination and recruitment policy regarding HIV and the Disability Discrimination Act.
THT can offer your staff relevant and up-to-date training on HIV issues in the workplace. Our unique position within the HIV sector, and proven track record of delivering appropriate training for your organisation and its work, makes us a perfect partner to meet your staff development needs.
In July 2008, THT ran a successful training session for over 20 Toni & Guy salon managers and HR staff. Toni & Guy wanted to inform their staff of the key challenges currently facing people living with HIV, and for THT to provide a professional and personal overview of the social, emotional and legal issues involved. THT led a varied and interactive session incorporating case studies and scenarios relevant to the hairdressing industry.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive:
“Excellent – best training course I have been on for content and presentation!”
“I have come away with some much more knowledge and understanding of HIV. I would highly recommend this seminar with THT”.
Perhaps you could try your hand at volunteering, like the team of 30 Goldman Sachs employees who join us at Lighthouse West London every year. They help us to maintain the centre by performing tasks such as tending the garden and painting the children's crèche.
On 4 November 2005, a team of 15 volunteers from Accenture spent the day painting at THT's new building in central London. They were given the challenge of painting the underground car park, which they took on with amazing energy and enthusiasm! Within just one day, they transformed the dark and dingy car park into a bright, clean area, enabling THT to lease some of the parking spaces to generate additional funds for the charity.
Matt Knight, THT's National Estates Manager, said "The results are fantastic and we'd be delighted to welcome the team back at any time".
