Applying to be a volunteer

The first step towards becoming a Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) volunteer is to contact a service centre near you. Just call or email your local centre and a volunteer coordinator will help you. In London we have one volunteer office, which coordinates voluntary work across THT's London centres.

Wherever you are in England, Scotland or Wales, if we have a service centre near you and you are thinking about volunteering, we'd love to hear from you. A volunteer coordinator will be with you every step of the way.

George Casley

Name: George Casley

Role: Community support volunteer

What does that mean?: `I regularly meet with someone living with HIV to help them with emotional support. It is enormously varied volunteering. It can be very challenging and there are times when it is routine. I am also a training facilitator and interview prospective volunteers.'

Why THT?: `Excellent support and training appealed to me initially – and still do – although making lots of good friends near where I live is now also important and having a flexible model of volunteering that fits in with the rest of my life is now vital to me. Being part of THT is exciting because of the way that we all have to adapt constantly to the many ways in which the virus attacks the most vulnerable and has a vicious ability to bring out the worst prejudices in so many people.'
