The complementary therapy team based at Lighthouse West is in need of more qualified and insured volunteer therapists. We are urgently looking for therapists qualified in massage, aromatherapy, shiatsu and reiki although other therapies will be considered according to the needs of our clients.
Ideally you should be available on a weekly basis and your commitment would be 3-4 hours per week for a minimum of six months after starting, and to be available to attend training events and team meetings as and when required.
We need therapists during the weekday and evenings. Full support and supervision provided.

Name: Graeme Peden

What does that mean?: I give shiatsu. Okay, for a lot of people they are probably none the wiser and some may even think I give away small oriental dogs! So, I better explain what shiatsu is.
Shiatsu is a holistic therapy, rooted in traditional oriental medicine. The shiatsu practitioner believes that the ki in the body flows along channels (known as meridians). To rebalance this energy, pressure is applied along the relevant meridians and acupuncture points.
Why THT?: Through the Bristol Shiatsu College (where I had done my 3 years of training), I heard that THT was looking for shiatsu practitioners. At that point I knew nothing about THT, so I did some research and decided it was a worthwhile charity to work for.
The core training THT provided was excellent and even though I had read the literature and been told, it was only after working in THT that I began to appreciate the broad spectrum of people affected by HIV.
