Positive Voices speaker

Positive Voices is a team of HIV positive speakers from across Sussex who are willing to go into organisations to talk about their personal experiences of living with HIV. Organisations we work with include schools, community groups, voluntary, statutory and private organisations and the media.

Aim

Through their talks, the volunteers aim to:

  • encourage understanding and dispel myths relating to HIV and people living with HIV by providing access to trained positive speakers
  • reinforce prevention messages by enabling people to meet someone with HIV and understand that HIV that can affect anyone regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and so forth
  • empower people with HIV to provide a personal perspective on living with the virus, thereby raising awareness of the associated issues and giving people with HIV a public voice.

How we support our Positive Voices volunteers

All speakers are volunteers of THT and, as such, receive general training on HIV and sexual health as well as specific training on topics such as telling personal stories and speaking to large groups. You'll also get an opportunity to shadow experienced volunteers.
