Refugee Mentoring Volunteers

We are urgently looking for volunteer mentors to work with refugees who are living with HIV and make a real difference to their lives.

The Refugee Mentoring Project is a service offering targeted one-to-one support to HIV positive refugees, asylum seekers and refused asylum seekers living in London who need practical help and emotional support.

The service is completely confidential, and is provided to refugees aged 18+ in their own homes, or another safe community space, by trained and CRB checked volunteers. The project aims to support and enable people to lead as independent a life as possible.

  • Can you handle challenging situations and be sensitive to people's feelings and needs?
  • Do you have experience of, or are you interested in, the issues faced by refugees living with HIV?
  • Can you spare 3-4 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months?
  • You will receive full training and join a group of other volunteers for monthly support meetings.

Support could include

  • Weekly visits and phone support
  • Emotional support and someone to talk to in confidence
  • Accompanying to appointments
