Volunteers play a vital role in everything that we do. From helping to deliver front-line services to helping with admin, everyone who volunteers is valued beyond measure.

Volunteer trainer

If you like working with groups of people and enjoy speaking in front of others you could help THT by becoming a volunteer trainer. 

We need to expand our team of volunteers who can help train other volunteers new to THT. We run different weekend training events throughout the year. Some volunteer trainers work on one type of event only while others choose to work on more than one event. Training for trainers is provided. There are regular trainer meetings and volunteer trainers are supported by the Volunteer Co-coordinator.

What will I be doing?

You could be up to all kinds of things with all kinds of people. The type of activities you could be involved with include:

  • Delivering training sessions, including making presentations, leading discussions and facilitating group work
  • Thinking creatively about training content and methods, with the opportunity to research and develop new material
  • Giving and receiving feedback about performance

What skills will I need?

Although this role can be quite challenging we do provide full training and support to our volunteers. It's a good oppurtunity to develop skills. You'll need to have:

  • Knowledge of basic training techniques and skills
  • Have undertaken a suitable training the trainers programme or a commitment to undertake THT’s ‘Training for Trainers’ programme
  • Excellent written, communication and active listening skills
  • Ability to give and receive feedback
  • Ability to facilitate large and small groups, and work comfortably on a one-to-one basis
  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to motivate self and others
  • Appropriate demonstration of sensitivity to others’ needs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to develop and maintain own knowledge of HIV, sexual health and related issues
  • Commitment to representing THT in a positive and constructive way
  • Commitment to setting and maintaining appropriate personal and professional boundaries
  • Good working knowledge of HIV and sexual health issues
