Every 70 minutes, somebody in the UK is diagnosed with HIV. Find out how you can help Terrence Higgins Trust to be there for them.

Why volunteer

If you feel that the work we do is important, if you would like to get involved and if you can give us your time, please volunteer. We need your help.

Covering your expenses

If you volunteer to help us at THT, we can reimburse your travel costs and some other expenses.

Volunteering and benefits

Volunteering will not effect your Incapacity Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance.

If you receive a Job Seekers Allowance, you have to continue to actively look for paid work as well as volunteering. However, the Job Centre should give you a bit more notice if they call you for an interview.

Any reimbursement of expenses that you get from us will not affect your benefits. This is because it is not a payment but is, instead, a refund of something that you have already spent.

Asylum seekers

If you are an asylum seeker, you are allowed to volunteer to help us as long as the only money you receive from us is a reimbursement of your expenses.

We would like more asylum seekers to volunteer for us. If you are not confident about your English and are worried about filling in forms and being interviewed, please let us know and we will be happy to help you.
