World AIDS Day - 1 DecemberHelp us to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS, promote good sexual health and combat the prejudice and ignorance that still surround this illness. | ![]() |
We’d like to send a huge thank-you to everyone who helped us mark World AIDS Day on 1st December. Hundreds of individuals and organisations rose to the challenge and worked with us to make a big noise about HIV and AIDS on this important day. The clubs, pubs, churches, shops, theatres, salons, trade unions and government offices who distributed red ribbons and put up posters are too numerous to mention, sadly, but here are just a few highlights.
Nick Bailey organised two nights of high-class jazz at Pizza On The Park to coincide with World AIDS Day and raised a magnificent £1,000 for our work.
Discotec returned to The End for one last hurrah and added nearly £900 to their amazing total of nearly £40,000 in seven years.
The gang at Bob Boutique Hairdressing in Battersea held a day of fundraising and awareness raising, with stylists donating half of their takings while a DJ supplied suitably hair-bobbing beats.
Who says students are lazy! Graphic design students from Kingston University took to the streets with collection tins, red ribbons and plenty of energy to raise more than ever before. Meanwhile, students from Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Manchester, Royal Holloway and Gloucestershire Universities joined us for our London Megaraid on 29th November to raise an amazing £5,000.

In addition to our customary Shop for a Cause events at Kiehl’s stores, this year we asked six of our celebrity supporters to design canvas bags for us to sell in Kiehl’s outlets. Among others including Gail Porter, Allegra Hicks and footballer David James, ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star Mathew Horne designed a brilliant bag for us, which was sold exclusively at Selfridges in London.
Kiehl’s also donated all profits from December sales of their popular Lip Balm #1 to THT, producing a limited edition version featuring the symbolic red ribbon. All in all, Kiehl’s WAD activities look set to raise well over £10,000!
