The fourth Black Gay Community Awards are being held on Friday 28th November at Club Celescuelita at The Nightingale, Lower Essex Street in Birmingham. The awards recognise those people and organisations who have made the biggest contribution to the well-being of the black gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Simon Nelson, Health Development Officer at Terrence Higgins Trust said: “These awards, now in their fourth year, send out a clear message that the black LGBT community is strong and thriving. We’re delighted to be able to hold this year’s awards in Birmingham, recognising the thriving black LGBT community which exists outside London.”
The five awards are supported by Bootylicious, Healthy Gay Life, Terrence Higgins Trust, BigUp@GMFA and blackgayuk.com. All nominations have come from the black LGBT community. Heather Small, formerly of M-People, will be making a personal appearance.
Club doors open at 10pm. The awards ceremony, compered by US singing sensation Tony Rhone, begins at 1am. There’s entertainment from drag artist C’leste, and DJs include Biggy C, Calvin, Felix and Spin Alchemy. Tickets, available on the door, are £5 before 12midnight and £8 thereafter.
