23 September 2003 Celebrities open new Terrence Higgins Trust office in Wolverhampton | ![]() |
Beverley Knight, top selling UK soul singer, and Michael Cashman MEP for the West Midlands (who also used to play Colin in Eastenders) will be in Wolverhampton on Friday to open a new centre for people with HIV . The Mayor of Wolverhampton, John Rowley and Dennis Turner, MP for Wolverhampton will also be attending.
Terrence Higgins Trust is the UK’s leading HIV charity, and the new centre in Wolverhampton will be providing health promotion, advice and support for people living with and affected by HIV.
Jackie Redding, Manager of Terrence Higgins Trust Midlands says: “We are very pleased that Terrence Higgins Trust now has a presence in Wolverhampton and are delighted that Beverley Knight and Michael Cashman are supporting us in this way. The number of people diagnosed with HIV in Wolverhampton has risen sharply over the last couple of years and the services of organisations like Terrence Higgins Trust are needed now more than ever.”
Councillor Helen King, Portfolio Lead for Social Care in Wolverhampton City Council responsible for funding the service said: “Terrence Higgins Trust will be able to provide a range of services much needed by the City of Wolverhampton and we look forward to working with them to improve the lives of people living with HIV.”
