15 June 2005 THT comment on the Health Protection Agency & LHO briefing on sexual health in London | ![]() |
Paul Ward, Deputy Chief Executive for Terrence Higgins Trust commented on the London Health Observatory (LHO) and Health Protection Agency report on sexual health in London:
“Young Londoners, particularly gay men and people from African communities are bearing the brunt of sexual ill-health epidemics and rising rates of HIV in the capital.
“It’s essential that we make it easier and faster for people to get tested and treated for sexual infections and promote safer sex to prevent new infections in the future.”
It is important to be clear that although the greatest number of new HIV diagnoses are among African communities in London (with most of those infections being acquired in Africa), the greatest number of new HIV and syphilis infections in London have been among gay men.
