Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), Brighton and Hove City PCT and the Expert Patients Programme are working in partnership to provide a self management course for people with HIV living in Brighton and Hove.
The expert patients programme is being held at rooms on Ship Street, starts on 12th July and will cover a variety of aspects of living with HIV. The course is free and will run every Thursday evening from 6.00pm – 8.30pm for seven weeks. Each session will be taken by trained tutors and will last two and a half hours.
The course will look at a variety of topics including:
- dealing with pain and extreme tiredness
- coping with feelings of depression
- relaxation techniques and exercise
- healthy eating
- communicating with family, friends and health professionals
- planning for the future
- disclosure and intimacy
Perry French, Regional Manager for THT in the South said ''As the name suggests, we want people to become experts in managing their HIV. By helping people living with HIV to manage their health and wellbeing, the programme should also allow them to get on with enjoying their lives to the full.”
