Gareth Davies leads the development of services for young people in Terrence Higgins Trust and facilitates the National Youth Work Development Group. He joined THT in 2002 following a merger with the Healthy Gay Living Centre, where he originally started working in 1995.
Gareth has been working in the voluntary youth sector for 10 years, primarily in sexual health and lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) youth work. In that time he has developed a number of projects to benefit the needs of LGB young people in London and has helped mainstream services to become more aware of, and responsive to, their needs.
Gareth’s work has also contributed to improvements in the quality of sexual health information, treatment and care for young people in south London. He is one of the co-founders of the Pan-London Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Youth Workers Forum, which has now evolved into the Freestyle London Project.
In his role at THT, Gareth is adapting key government legislation and using it as a foundation for delivering effective HIV and STI prevention messages to young people. A key element of this is placing young people at the heart of service development and delivery.
