World AIDS Day 2011

We're asking thousands of people across the country to unite and make a big noise about HIV and AIDS by Standing Up and Standing Out on 1 December. Whether it's being bold and flashing some red pants, or doing something a little more restrained like selling red ribbons is entirely up to you!

This year will see 100,000 people living with HIV in the UK, more than one in four of whom won't even know they have it. So we’re calling on you, our friends and supporters, to help us raise awareness and vital funds this World AIDS Day.

If you're in school or college you can help put your school on the map by taking the Red Ribbon Challenge in three easy steps:

• Get the whole school dressed in red – charge each student £1 (or more) to wear their own red outfit for the day.
• Create a giant human red ribbon in the playground and take a snapshot of your students Standing Up and Standing Out.
• Upload your photo to our Flickr map and join schools all across the UK uniting for people living with HIV.

Or perhaps you’re a university student? We want you to be loud and proud about Standing Up and Standing Out for HIV this World AIDS Day by holding a fundraising Red Pants Party at your student union.

Three easy steps to the ultimate Red Pants Party:

1. The dress code is red pants – whether they brave the elements by wearing only their undies or are a little more demure, guests have to flash them to gain entrance to the party.
2. Really go to town with your red pants themed party; we’re talking red undies bunting for decoration, saucy red cocktails (Scarlet Knickers Swizzle anyone?) and cheeky knickers themed party games. Check out our website for party inspiration and scrummy cocktail recipes.
3. Charge an entry fee or ask for a donation on the door, and you’ll be supporting people living with HIV.
