World AIDS Day 2011

Human red ribbon

World AIDS Day 2011 is on December 1st - what will you be doing for it?

We're asking thousands of people across the country to unite and make a big noise about HIV and AIDS by Standing Up and Standing Out on this important day. Whether it's being bold and flashing some red pants or doing something a little more restrained like selling red ribbons is entirely up to you!

This year the 100,000 person living with HIV in the UK will be diagnosed. More than 1 in 4 of these people won’t even know they have it.

So we’re calling on you, our friends and supporters, to help us raise awareness and vital funds this World AIDS Day.

Wear your red ribbon with pride and you'll be Standing Up and Standing Out for people living with HIV. Selling red ribbons to your friends, family and colleagues is a simple way for you to make a real difference for those living with, and affected by, HIV.

But there are so many other ways that you can Stand Up and Stand Out whether you're fundraising in your home, at your work place or out in your community. If you're getting some friends together in the comfort of your own home why not host a cheeky Red Pants Party? Or if you're getting everyone together from your local sports club/hobby group/book club (delete as applicable) at your local Community Centre maybe it would be more suitable to drop the pants (not literally!) and hold a Red Party instead?

Or perhaps you'd like to host a Big Red Quiz? We've done the hard work of coming up with the questions so you just need to round up the competitors, whether that's a group of colleagues after work or friends and family at your local pub.

Old favourites such as getting sponsored to do something daring for World AIDS Day, dying your hair red, or holding a cake/book/jumble sale are all fantastic fundraising activities that can work in all situations and environments whether it’s at home, work, or in your community.

For advice, support and enthusiasm, get in touch with our Community fundraising team today.
