Looking after yourself online

a finger on a keyboard

It’s worth spending some time thinking about how you can protect yourself online.

Here's some things you can do to make your online use safer:

  • If you use a shared computer, you may want to familiarise yourself with how to clear your internet history and cookies
  • Remember to log out properly when you finish using email or an instant messaging program (don’t just exit without logging out)
  • If you think someone else knows your username and password, consider opening a new account or change your password
  • Never open links or attachments from an untrusted source or divulge financial information in emails or via instant messaging
  • Hushmail, Skype and our online counselling service are all encrypted services – other services may send data over the internet in plain text and theoretically could be intercepted.
