If you have made an asylum application or an application under the Human Rights Act, you may be able to get support from the National Asylum Support Service (NASS), although you are not entitled to get social security benefits and social housing.
Whilst the UK Border Agency (UKBA) is processing your application you may be able to get support from the NASS/UKBA for you and your family and somewhere to live. However, if you did not apply for asylum until some time after your arrival in the United Kingdom, the UKBA may not be able to help you with support unless it is necessary to do so to prevent a breach of your rights under the European Convention on Human Rights. If you meet the requirements you will receive financial support and be given suitable housing. Find out more about what support services are available to you.
For those of you whose application has been turned down and who are unable to return to your country of origin for example because of war, you and your family may be able to get assistance under Section 4 of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999.
