In memory

Red ribbons

Donating in memory is a truly positive way of celebrating a life while helping Terrence Higgins Trust in its fight against HIV.

When Terry Higgins died with AIDs in 1982, his partner and friends set up Terrence Higgins Trust in his memory to honour his life and to prevent more people having the same experience as him.

Today, many people have given to us in memory of loved ones who have died. Giving in memory is a really special way of supporting us and leaving a meaningful tribute to the person you have lost. Every gift in memory will help to provide essential services for people living with HIV and at risk of poor sexual health.

These services really can save lives, services such as:

  • Counselling – we provide free counselling for people living with HIV as well as their partners and families.
  • THT Direct – Our helpline staffed by trained volunteers is there to provide emotional support for anyone living with HIV or concerned about their sexual health.
  • HIV testing – Our Fastest centres allow people to receive results in under one hour and receive counselling and support before and after the test.
  • Hardship Fund – The Hardship Fund provides financial support for those who find themselves in poverty because of their HIV status.
  • Health Training – Helping people living with HIV to practically cope with their diagnosis and have a better understanding of their illness.

Because we know how personal gifts given in memory can be, we have created a scheme called Red Ribbon Funds, where friends and family can build their own personalised fund in memory of someone they’ve lost.

We have had really positive feedback from our supporters who say that having this positive focus has helped them with their grief and has been a beautiful way for friends and family to share memories. The funds are quick and easy to set up, and you are free to donate as little or as much money as you choose. Find out more
