The Gala Auction

Janet Street Porter at the 2011 gala auction

The star-studded Lighthouse Gala Auction is the jewel in the crown of the Gala Events programme, attracting attention from across the media to help shine a light on the important work carried out by Terrence Higgins Trust.

The 16th instalment of this prestigious event ran in March 2012, raising the huge sum of £373,000 through the auctioning of a wide range of 'money can't buy' items. Lots included: a walk-on part in Matthew Bourne’s next ballet, dinner at The Goring with Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, a black cab tour of Fleet Street with Janet Street Porter and a supporting artist role in the final episode of Poirot - which sold for an amazing £15,000.

In addition to the fantastic celebrity lots, the evening featured art donated by Terrence Higgins Trust patron Tracey Emin as well as contemporaries such as Damien Hurst, Rachel Whiteread and Gillian Wearing. Tracey’s neon 'Trust Yourself' sign fetched a staggering £54,000.

Genevieve Edwards, Director of Fundraising at Terrence Higgins Trust says:

'The amount raised through this year’s auction has far surpassed our expectations. We are hugely grateful to everyone who attended, donated lots, stuck their hands in the air and helped us raise such a phenomenal amount for people living with HIV. This money will make a real difference to our work, and help us to reach some of the most vulnerable people in society.'

The next auction is in Spring 2013 when we’ll be building on the event’s already phenomenal success. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information on how you can get involved.
