Running races, film screenings and shaving off some beards – World AIDS Day 2016
We’d like to thank everyone who fundraised for us this year for making this World AIDS Day so amazing. Charlotte Byrne, Community Fundraising Assistant, looks back at what our supporters got up to.
We’re celebrating the success of another incredible World AIDS Day. Over 250 people fundraised up and down the country, taking on everything from physical challenges to fabulous red cocktail evenings, bake sales and club nights.
The Community Fundraising Team were out in force in the weeks running up to World AIDS Day, collecting money alongside the Health Promotion team and meeting some of our amazing supporters.
We kicked off the activities with a film screening organised by JAKE, taking place at the beautiful Mayfair Hotel, where the team attended the screening of ‘Looking – The Movie’ and treated some of our most dedicated supporters to a night of glamour. This was followed by a fundraising night held by Dalston Superstore, raising money from ticket sales and door collections.
We then cheered on our runners at the annual World AIDS Day Red Run, organised by Positive East. This was a hugely successful day, and we really enjoyed meeting members of TeamTHT at the post-race party, treating them to a few well deserved minced pies and mulled wine, and gave out our very own Terrence Higgins Trust goody bags!

On World AIDS Day itself, we attended Beard Aid at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern hosted by the fabulous Myra Dubois, where lots of men braved the shave in the name of Terrence Higgins Trust. This was a night of fabulous entertainment, and hopefully everyone who took part is now enjoying their new clean shaven look.
Finally, we couldn’t think of a better way to round off World AIDS Day than with Sink the Pink, a night of glittery fabulous fun! We had our very own photobooth on the night, and even had a few famous faces pose with their red ribbons including Olly Alexander and Tim Minchin!

Community Fundraising Manager India Turner-Lees said: ‘It was great to have so many people involved in marking World AIDS Day this year and reminding people that It’s Not Over. We’d like to thank all of our supporters across the UK who took part in fundraising events this year, and helped make this one of our best World AIDS Days yet!’
We really look forward to revealing our grand total for World AIDS Day 2016 in the new year. Thank you again, and the team look forward to attending even more fabulous events next year!
