We'll support you all the way to make sure your event is a total success – virtually or socially distanced! So whether you’re a master baker, a quiz host extraordinaire or ready to brave the shave, we're here for you.
How to host
- Register your event with us – we'll get in touch in the lead up to your event.
- Choose a date and time – be sure to let everyone know as soon as it’s set and get advertising wherever you can.
- Send out invites – mix and match with friends, family, colleagues, gym buddies, club members, team mates or fellow students!
- Host your event virtually straight from your living room, in your bubble at home or socially distanced out-and-about.
As it isn’t easy to get out and about this year and do our usual bucket shaking, we're launching our virtual collections!
Facebook Fundraising is a simple and easy way to get raising money this World AIDS Day:
- Go to Terrence Higgins Trust on Facebook.
- Select ‘Fundraisers’ at the top of the page.
- Choose ‘Raise Money’.
- Edit your fundraiser on the left and click ‘Create’, then your Facebook Fundraiser is ready to share with your friends and family.
Be sure to include why you’re supporting us this Tuesday 1 December and what the red ribbon means to you.
Alternatively, we can provide you with a personalised Text-to-Donate code for you to share.
We love coffee and cake – and we're all in need of an extra caffeine boost now the mornings are getting darker! Host a weekly C&C morning, or set a baking task for your guests. Check out this amazing Red Velvet Cupcake recipe by our supporters Hummingbird Bakery.
Question 1: What’s a fun and easy way to raise money for us this World AIDS Day? Answer: Host a quiz!
Write your own or download our LGBT+ quiz or our Girl Band quiz ready for the big day (you can get these by emailing [email protected] or downloading them directly below).
Host the event yourself or invite a friend or speaker to do it. Top tip: Marking the answers after each round will keep things moving along smoothly.
Stigma-bust in style and wear it red this World AIDS Day! Hold a party where everyone wears red, then vamp it up by having red food and drinks, or put together a playlist full of songs with the word ‘red’ in the title. Ask guests to donate a little extra to take part in a ‘best dressed’ competition. Top tip: Ask around to see if you can get a prize donated for free.
Introducing the Big Shave Off challenge! Brave the shave this World AIDS Day and get your clippers at the ready for Tuesday 1 December. Live stream your Big Shave along with other supporters or post your before and after photos on your social media.
Be sure to tag in @THTorguk and use the hashtag #BigShaveOff
Stand and collection
Hosting a collection on a stall World AIDS Day is a great way to raise awareness and get people talking about HIV as well as raising vital funds.
We’ll give you with a personalised Text-to-donate code for your collection, to make donating really easy. Host a competition or raffle to boost your donations by simply adding your donors name to a prize draw. Be sure to ask around to see if you can get a prize donated for free for the winner.
Always follow the current Government guidelines for social distancing to stay safe.
There are some amazing films and documentaries that showcase the different stories of the epidemic. Host a film screening this World AIDS Day to increase awareness, reflect on times past and how far we have come, as well as raising vital funds.
Do your screening in your bubble at home, or socially distanced in a safe space, or virtually through Netflix Party. Boost donations by selling popcorn on the day or host a post-show discussion for an extra donation. You could even host a movie marathon and ask for sponsorship, or make your screening a weekly affair in the lead up to Tuesday 1 December for a donation each week.
Check out GLAAD’s World AIDS Day watch list for some screening inspiration.
