Fundraising at your university

Hold a fundraising event at your university and challenge the stigma surrounding HIV. Crucially you will also be raising vital funds to help those affected by and at risk of the virus.

By putting HIV on the agenda in your Students’ Union, you’ll be encouraging students to think about their own sexual health and empowering them to make safer choices. Never underestimate the power you have to make a difference!

Whether you’re organising a RAG raid or a pub crawl, we’ll give you all the advice and guidance you need. This could be from securing a street collection permit on your behalf, to providing fundraising materials including balloons, posters and collection tins!

Here's a few ideas to try or use for inspiration:

Cake sale

Always a popular choice. Whether you hold a bake-a-thon, a cake-making competition or a tea party, this is a great way to raise funds and show off your culinary skills at the same time.

Quiz night

Hold a quiz night for Terrence Higgins Trust, and make sure to add in a round on sexual health and HIV! Get students to pay to enter a team, and find out who's the brainiest of the bunch!

Flash mob

Descend upon an area in your city in fancy dress and do a dance routine. Have collection buckets at the ready for spectators to donate.

Fancy a detox after Freshers? Buy lots of fruit in bulk and say it’s for charity to try to get a discount. Set yourself up on campus with some blenders and offer smoothies to those walking past for a small donation.

Car wash

Charge to wash cars with the proceeds going to Terrence Higgins Trust. The more people you can get to come along and help, the easier it will be and the more fun you will have!

Night of Controversy

Night of Controversy is a fabulous opportunity to organise a big student night out with a risqué theme that’s sure to excite – think Moulin Rouge meets 50 Shades of Grey. We can even provide you with resources for planning your event! Find out more about Night of Controversy.

Hopefully these ideas have helped you to kick-start your fundraising plans, but we know that students often have the most imaginative ideas, so don’t feel like you need to stick to these! We will be happy to help you get your event noticed with fundraising materials such as balloons and posters.
