HIV Prevention England (HPE) is the national HIV prevention programme for England. It is part of Terrence Higgins Trust and funded by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.
HPE delivers a programme of HIV prevention work for those most affected by HIV in England, mainly gay and bisexual men and Black African people.
Through HPE, we run the BMA award-winning It Starts With Me campaign, National HIV Testing Week and the publication of Mambo magazine.
We work with various partners who help to amplify our campaigns through advice, information and HIV testing services.
We also provide training to health professionals and provide freely available information resources and campaign materials.
It Starts With Me
It Starts With Me is the campaign to promote HIV testing and reduce HIV infection.
The message ‘Test - Treat - Protect’ runs through the campaign, which stresses the individual responsibility we all have in stopping the spread of HIV.
The campaign runs during the summer and during National HIV Testing Week, which takes place annually in late November.
National HIV Testing Week
The annual National HIV Testing Week promotes HIV testing to gay and bisexual men and Black African men and women.
The week is co-ordinated by HPE, with support and participation from organisations in the public, statutory and private sectors. It promotes the benefits of regular testing and treatment for both the individual and the community.
HIV prevention resources
To support the It Starts With Me and National HIV Testing Week campaigns, we provide free HIV prevention resources to all organisations in England engaged in HIV prevention.
Resources available can be viewed and ordered on our portal.
